Caretaker Charged with Assaulting Wheelchair-bound Tewksbury Man: Report

The woman was charged with assault and battery on a disabled person and was ordered to stay away from the alleged victim.

TEWKSBURY, MA — A live-in caretaker of a Tewksbury man was charged with assault and battery on a disabled person and is accused of striking the man she cares for across the face, reports the Lowell Sun.

According to the report, Theresa M. Askey, 53, of Tewksbury was released on personal recognizance Tuesday after pleading not guilty to assault and battery on a disabled person. She was ordered to stay away from and not have any contact with the victim, and a pretrial conference is scheduled for Oct. 24.

The Lowell Sun report, citing Tewksbury police stated that officers responded to the Archstone Avenue address Monday morning for a report of a disabled man being struck by his live-in caretaker. The victim told police that after he had been released from the hospital, Askey allegedly began yelling at him, calling him a "no good heroin addict," slapping him across the face, reported the Lowell Sun.

Askey reportedly told police that the victim was upset when he returned from the hospital and began going through heroin withdrawal.
