LOWELL, MA — CVS has opened a new drive-through coronavirus testing site in Lowell, in the parking lot of Lowell’s Showcase Cinema at 32 Reiss Ave. The site will test up to 1,000 high-risk people per day, at no cost.

A new test will be used that will produce results on the spot.

The Lowell site, the first in the state, replaces a Shrewsbury pilot site which tested only first responders and people over the age of 65.

Residents seeking to get tested will have to answer questions online to see if they qualify and then make an appointment. Only Massachusetts residents can get tested.

“By working with a wide range of partners, we have dramatically increased Massachusetts’ COVID-19 testing capacity, and we are grateful to CVS for their partnership in launching this new rapid testing site,” Gov. Charlie Baker said in a statement. “The continued expansion of testing, along with our new efforts around community tracing, will enable the Commonwealth to better track and slow the spread of this virus.”
