
The Tewksbury/ Wilmington Red Cats Girls U14 team faced off against the Northern Lady Cyclones at Nashoba Olympia in Boxboro on Saturday 12/3, and delivered an impressive shutout win.
This one was a complete team effort, with the Red Cats showing hustle and determination in keeping their opponent off the board.
Red Cats defender Charlotte Grant opened the scoring in the 1st period launching a rocket from the blue line to make it 1-0.
The ‘Cats kept their nose to the grindstone, with forwards Payton Fuller, Erin Carter, Sam Burke, Erin Green and Meredith Chase keeping the pressure on the Cyclones with strong fore checking throughout the contest.
Thanks to this effort, they managed to get a few good scoring chances even while shorthanded.
Meanwhile, the Red Cat blueliners were holding up their end of the bargain, getting excellent efforts from Emma Surette, Bridget O’Shea, Alianna Sampson, Charlotte Grant and Tess Barrett. They worked to quickly shut down any offensive opportunities by the Cyclones.
When their opponent did manage to get a shot away, goaltender Melanie Hayden was there to smother the opportunity, keeping the shutout intact in first-rate form.
With 5:29 left in the game, Diana Riley lit the lamp to make it 2-0 on a beautiful pass from Gina Bertolami to give the Red Cats some breathing room.
The remainder of the game featured more of the same complete game effort and commitment from the Red Cats, as they posted the well-deserved 2-0 shutout victory.
