Golf Tournament to Benefit Friends of the Elderly

13th annual event will take place at Indian Ridge Country Club on Sept. 13.

Golfers will tee off on Monday, Sept.13 for the 13th annual Mary Ann Wareham Golf Connection tournament.

The event, which will take place at Indian Ridge Country Club in Andover, is a fundraiser for the Tewksbury Friends of the Elderly. However, the tournament is for men and women of all ages.

Mary Ann Wareham founded the tournament in 1998. She passed away in 2002 and the tournament was renamed in her honor.

"Last year, we raised about $5,000," said tournament coordinator Linda Brabant, who serves as direct of the Tewksbury Senior Center and Council on Aging. "Over the first 12 years, we have raised over $87,000."

The tournament has become the biggest fundraiser of the year for the Friends of the Elderly (FOTE) , an organization that serves as something of a "booster club" for the Senior Center and Council on Aging.

In the past, according to Brabant, money from FOTE has been used to pay for landscaping, repairs and maintenance work at the center.

"It's primarily just for the elderly, although they have done fundraising for the Community Food Pantry and another non-profit group in town,"said Brabant.

The cost to participate in the golf tournament is $130 for an individual or $500 for a foursome. The fee includes a continental breakfast, luncheon and prizes, in addition to golfing and a cart.

Prizes will be awarded for first place gross and first, second and third place net. There will also be longest drive and closest to the pin competitions.
