VIDEO: Greek Restaurant Gives Tewksbury a Mediterranean Flair

It's a small restaurant on the corner of North and Main in Tewksbury.  But once you walk inside, you feel as if you've walked into a spacious Greek cafe with the smells of cooking lamb and marinated chicken luring you inside.

has been making Tewksbury mouths water since 2001.  Pantelis Karakatsanis, the owner, is there almost everyday helping prepare and cook every dish to order.

"Literally, everything goes through my hands," said Karakatsanis, "I try to be here and do the best that I can."

The unique feature of Skewer's is its wood grill.  No gas or electricity needed!  Karakatsanis says the grill is the secret ingredient to most of his creations.

"It's not just fire," said the Greek native, "every flavor that you put in, every spice that you put in, [the wood fire] will bring it out.”

Customers who flood the restaurant daily during the lunch hour, say the food is of high quality without the high cost.

"It’s like a restaurant quality food but for half the price you’d normally pay," said Joel Foster who stops by when he's up visiting his parents from Newton.

Another regular, Tom McPherson, said he was hooked the minute he tried Skewer's hamburger nearly ten years ago.

"When I came in after he first opened, I said, ‘If he makes a good hamburger, the food will be good.’ And I’ve been coming back ever since.”

Karakatsanis said its getting harder to provide fresh foods at low prices, but he's committed to doing just that.

"It's the Alpha and the Omega," he said, "If you don't have fresh food, then you can't cook."

Skewer's Wood Grill is open seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. with extra hours on Thursdays and Fridays and shorter hours on Sunday. Skewer's provides take-out and delivery.  The restaurant is also available for catering.
