Honors Continue Pouring in for Macy

THS grad is NE-10 Player of the Week and UMass-Lowell's all-time leading scorer.

Senior forward Sammy Macy of Tewksbury notched 12 points on the No. 3 River Hawks' 3-0 opening week, while freshman goalkeeper Melanie Hopkins (Harwich, Mass.) played all 210 minutes in the cage without allowing a single goal by opponents.

The squad opened its season with a 6-0 victory over Mansfield at home on Friday evening and followed up the performance with another 6-0 win, this time over No. 8 Indiana (Pa.) on Sunday. Still in Pennsylvania, the River Hawks capped off the week with a 1-0 shutout of Millersville on Monday afternoon.

Macy broke multiple school records with her offensive explosion of five goals and an assist for 11 points in the trampling of Indiana (Pa.) on Sunday. Her five goals improved her career total to 66, making her the all-time leading goal scorer in program history, surpassing Sarah Hohenberger, who had previously set the record with 64.

The tri-captain also contributed an assist in the home-opener, bringing her total to five goals and a pair of assists during the three-game spread.

Macy began last season as the Player of the Week, as well, and is the reigning NE-10 Player of the Year.  She is the daughter of Doug and Mary Macy of Tewksbury.

The River Hawks, who stand at 3-0 on the year, will return to the field on Friday evening, taking on Southern Connecticut State in New Haven, Conn. at 7:00 p.m.
