The play seemed simple enough, as the catcher for Billerica National tried to pick Chad Oliveira of Tewksbury National off first base in the first inning of their District 14 12-year-old Tournament game.
About 10 seconds later, fans at Poulin Field were buzzing about one of the best baserunning plays they had ever seen.
The throw was wild and wound up rolling all the way to the right field fence. Byt the time the right fielder for Billerica got to the ball Oliveria was hitting third with a full head of steam.

The relay play by Billerica as perfect and the throw arrived back with the catcher in plenty of time to nail Oliveria trying to score.
Ball in hand, the catcher anticipated Oliveira would fade-slide to the fence side of home plate.

He was wrong.
As the catcher lunged to his left, Oliveria took flight -- leaping over the stunned Billerica player and landing squarely (and safely) on home plate.
The spectacular play helped Tewksbury National to a 3-1 win.
