Key Update Released On Battery Storage Project In Tewksbury

A state board weighed in on the fate of the project recently.

TEWKSBURY, MA — The state approved the Hillman Battery Energy Storage System project June 30, according to the town.

However, more than 100 conditions were attached to the approval, including about 50 that were directly from an agreement the town negotiated.

Those conditions provide public health and safety protections, according to the town.

"The state's decision gave great deference to local public safety concerns, reinforcing the Select Board's decision to be an active participant in the permitting process with the intent of attaining the most public safety conditions possible," according to the town.
