Kmart Set To Return To Tewksbury

Retailer was transitioned to a Sears Essentials back in 2005.

After a six-year absence, Kmart is set to return to Tewksbury.

The venerable retail outlet will be returning to a location it had occupied in Stadium Plaza (10 Main St.) until 2005. As part of the merger between Kmart and Sears, the Tewksbury location was_

_According to a spokesperson for Sears Holding Co., the parent corporation for both chains, the decision to reverse that decision and bring Kmart back was driven by Greater Tewksbury consumers.

"The customers decided that they would rather have a Kmart and we listen to our customers," said spokesperson Kimberly Freely.

According to Freely, the store will "go black" from Thursday, Oct. 27 through Sunday, Oct. 30 as the transition takes place. During this time, however, the pharmacy inside the store will remain open.

On Halloween, Monday, Oct. 31, the store will reopen as a Kmart.

According to Freely, a Grand Opening celebration will take place around Nov. 15.
