Local Novelist to Hold Book Signing at A Novel Cafe

Scott Crowley speaks on "A Sense of Entitlement."

Scott Crowley's second novel was a long time in the making. He's hoping readers find it well worth the wait.

"The idea came to me in 1999," said Crowley, a Tewksbury resident. "I was looking for inspiration and a theme (or themes, and a plot) for my second novel."

On Saturday, April 30, Crowley will be signing copies of A Sense of Entitlement at , from 2 to 4 p.m.

Crowley said there are three themes that he hones in on in A Sense of Entitlement, which was released in October. His first novel, Ian Baxter, was released in 2002.

"I was interested the endless sense of entitlement that occurs daily in our lives," Crowley said. "Specifically how the (privileged and elite) and their families gain unfettered access to the all the riches American society has to offer."

The second theme is how "an artist can lose his talent (or skills), seemingly overnight," said Crowley. "For example, a writer who has two or three great books and then slides to mediocrity or the musician who cannot write a simple song after a prolific career."

He described the third theme simply as "a monumental deception." He said he could not elaborate on this theme as it would spoil the plot for the readers.

Crowley's career goals include reaching a level of success that would allow him to work on his "craft, uninterrupted by the grinds of life."

"My motivation is simple, to write the Great American Novel, a task many have tried and (have), more often than not, failed miserably," he said.

Both Ian Baxter and A Sense of Entitlement can be found at www.amazon.com and www.barnesandnoble.com
