Lowell Man Charged In Connection With 2018 Car Homicide
Police say the 35-year-old Lowell man hit another vehicle at high speed from behind, resulting in the other driver's death.
LOWELL, MA — A Lowell man was arrested Thursday in connection with a deadly 2018 crash. According to a release by Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan and Lowell Superintendent of Police Raymond Kelly Richardson, Daniel Wamiti, 35, of Lowell, was arraigned in Lowell District Court on the charge of motor vehicle homicide. On July 25, 2018, Juan Ramon River, 52, of Lowell, was killed in a fatal crash.
Judge Patrick Malone ordered Wamiti not to drive without a valid license. His next court date in March 12.
On July 25, 2018, at around 7:04 a.m., Lowell Police responded to a report of a crash in the area of Gorham Street and Manchester Street in Lowell. Police say that Wamiti, driving a 2012 Honda Accord at high speed, hit Rivera's car, a 2006 Mitsubishi Endeavor SUV, from behind. Rivera was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Middlesex District Attorney's Office and the Lowell Police Department investigated the case and Marissa Milero is the prosecutor assigned to the. The charges are allegations and the defendant is innocent until proven guilty.
