Monkey Spotted On The Loose In Tewksbury

Residents are encouraged to call the Tewksbury Police Department if they see a monkey, which could be dangerous.

TEWKSBURY, MA — Tewksbury officials are looking for a monkey that was reportedly spotted in town Tuesday and Wednesday.

A caller on Michael Street called both days after reportedly seeing the monkey in the trees off their property.

Tewksbury Police investigated the area and saw no sign of the animal, but Tewksbury Animal Control is continuing to look for it.

Any resident who sees the monkey is directed to not approach it and to call Tewksbury Police.

Shawsheen Animal Hospital shared a photo from the caller and noted that monkeys can carry the Herpes B virus, which can be fatal to humans.

A Tewksbury police spokesman said that the Environmental Protection Agency told the department that they will assist in capturing the monkey, if it is located.
