No Injuries In Tewksbury Fire

Smoke alarms alerted the family that lives at 922 Whipple Rd., allowing them to escape as a fire our through the second story of their home.

TEWKSBURY, MA -- A Whipple Road family is staying with relatives after a fire severely damaged their home Wednesday night. Tewksbury Fire Fighters were able to stop the fire before it left the house a total lost. Deputy Fire Chief Albert Vasas credited smoke detectors with alerting the family and allowing them to get out of the house safely.

The fire department received the call around 8:30 pm Wednesday. When they arrived at 922 Whipple Road, they found heavy smoke and flames in the second-story bedrooms. The cause of the fire is under investigation but Vasas said it does not appear to be suspicious.

"The guys made a very aggressive stop, kept it from going into the attic," Vasas told the Lowell Sun, which first reported this story.
