OBITUARY: Joan Claire (Cilley) Ewen, 80

Former Office Manager; Model

Joan Claire (Cilley) Ewen, age 80, a well known resident of Tewksbury for five decades, died Monday afternoon, August 13, after a valiant battle with cancer. She was the beloved wife of William Ewen, with whom she had celebrated a 57th wedding anniversary this past July 16th.

She was born in Barre, Vermont, on January 4, 1932, the only child of the late Kenneth Dearborn and Winona (Lillie) Cilley. She was raised in Medford, MA, and graduated from Stoneham High School. She moved to Tewksbury in 1964 to raise her family.

In her earlier career, she worked as a runway model for Jordan Marsh during their annual seasonal collection debuts. She later worked for State Street Bank in Downtown Boston, and finished her career as the Office Manager for Reid Associates in Wilmington and later Woburn.

She was an active member of the Tewksbury United Methodist Church, where she and Bill enjoyed membership in the Couples Club, and relished her rolls as a performer at the annual church variety show productions.

She and Bill were active in the Thursday and Sunday Bingo Community, and in her later years, was an active member of the Tewksbury Golden Age Club, and a regular visitor to the Tewksbury Senior Center.

Besides her beloved husband “Bill,” she is survived by three children, Dana P. Siegal and her husband Ed of Stoneham, Kenneth W. Ewen of Newton, NH, and Lynne J. (Miller) Caruso and her husband John of Pelham, NH; three grandchildren, Sabrina Fenton and her husband Jason of Arlington, Derek Miller and his wife Robyn of Pelham, NH, Chad Miller and his fiancé Mikaela Preston of Waltham; three great grandchildren, Nolan, Joseph, and Lily; a sister-in-law, Barbara Hastings and her husband Burt of VT; and several nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours Friday, Aug. 17, from 4 to 7 and Saturday, Aug. 18, from 10 to 11 in the , corner of 1 Dewey and 975 Main Sts. (Rte 38) TEWKSBURY CENTER, phone (800 in MA or 978) 851 2950. Her Funeral Service will be held following Saturday morning visiting hours, Aug. 18, at 11:00 a.m. in the Funeral Home, followed by burial in Tewksbury Cemetery.
