Driver Crashes Into Tewksbury Police Officer: DA
Authorities said Jorge Joel Gomez Guzman crossed into the opposite lane of traffic and hit the officer's cruiser head-on.

TEWKSBURY, MA — A Lawrence man was charged Tuesday morning after authorities said he crashed head-on into a Tewksbury police cruiser. Jorge Joel Gomez Guzman, 21, of Lawrence, was accused of negligent driving, among other charges. The Middlesex District Attorney's Office said Guzman was driving a white van westbound on Route 133 at about 6:46 a.m. when he crossed into the opposite lane of traffic and slammed into the cruiser.
Guzman and the officer were hospitalized with injuries that were not considered life-threatening. The identity of the officer was not released.
Guzman was also charged with a marked lanes violation and having an improperly registered vehicle. No arraignment date has been set.

The crash is being investigated by the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office, the Massachusetts State Police Collision and Analysis Reconstruction Section and Tewksbury police. Additional charges could be issued, authorities said.
