Rail Trail Public Meeting Thursday, March 26

Tewksbury Rail Trails will have a public meeting on Thursday, March 26 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Tewksbury Memorial High School. The public is invited to hear from TRT leaders and the project engineers from Fay, Spofford and Thorndike on the progress of the Feasibility Study for passive recreation trails along abandoned rail bed corridors in the town. The meeting will be held in Large Group (LG) 1, on the first floor.

This is the first meeting since the Open House held in early December.

A rail trail is typically an abandoned railroad corridor converted into a multi-use recreation path. Trails offer a safe, off-road place for people to enjoy nature and walk, cycle, cross-country ski, etc.-most any type of non-mechanized activity.

An April 2013 Town Meeting vote allotted money, through the Community Preservation Committee, for a feasibility study to evaluate the available rail spurs in the town. The engineering firm Fay, Spofford and Thorndike of Burlington, MA was engaged and the process is underway.

Fay, Spofford and Thorndike is a design, planning and consulting firm based in Burlington, Massachusetts. With considerable experience in rail trail design, FST is working with citizen group Tewksbury Rail Trails and the Town of Tewksbury to evaluate trail options and offer guidance through various stages of the process.
