Redmen Roundup: Tennis, Softball Teams Pick Up Victories

Tennis team stopy Newburyport, 3-2; Softball team slams Cambridge R&L, 10-0

April McDermott  and Alyssa Mulno picked up singles wins to lead the girls over Newburyport on Monday.

McDermott won her match, 6-2, 6-4, while Mulno rolled to a 6-3, 6-2 win.

The doubles team of Jordan LeBlanc and Lindsey McQuesten clinched the victory with a 6-1, 6-2 victory.

Tewksbury came close to making it a 5-0 sweep. Kylie Sedgwick lost in three sets in singles (7-5 in the third) and the doubles team of Meaghan Keene and Natasha Kuegler also pushed their match to three sets.

wasted no time fooling around with an overmatched Cambridge Rindge & Latin squad. Tewksbury jumped in front early and kept building on their lead in the 10-0 romp.

Pitcher Shannon McLaughlin scattered five hits, while striking out four on her way to the shutout.

Tiffanie Marsh led the Tewksbury offense with four hits, including a two-run single to get things rolling in the first inning. Shortstop Brooke Hardy and Sam LaFerriere each had three hits and scored a pair of runs apiece.

Kate Doherty and Lauren Texeira each rocked triples, as the Redmen improved to 2-0.
