Rep. Miceli Announces Restored Budget Funding for Local Projects

Includes $25,000 for Tewksbury's Camp Pohelo, as well as the town's library pilot program.

State Representative James Miceli and the House of Representatives voted Wednesday to restore provisions of the state budget that included funding for local projects.

Rep. Miceli announced that he worked diligently to restore the line item that included $25,000 for Camp Pohelo. Camp Pohelo is a Special Needs camp in the community of Tewksbury that serves individuals with physical or learning disabilities. With events ranging from sports to arts and music, the camp provides a fun, social atmosphere while addressing the additional care its attendees might require. Its popularity has surged in recent years and the modest request of $25,000 would go greatly to serve this particular population and their families.

Rep. Miceli was also successful in securing the votes needed to override the Governor’s veto regarding funds to restore the Library pilot Program in Tewksbury. The School Committee had requested assistance with $20,000 to fund a library pilot program for their school system. Severe financial constrains in the community has hampered their efforts to update the local schools libraries. The Library pilot program will be used to spark student interest in furthering their education outside the classroom, promote creativity, arts, and culture.
