Rep. Miceli Back To Work For Tewksbury, Wilmington

The 82-year-old state representative was hospitalized after collapsing during a meeting last week.

TEWKSBURY, MA -- State Rep. James Miceli (D-Wilmington) is back to work less than a week after collapsing during a meeting and being taken to a hospital by ambulance. In a Facebook post Monday, Tewksbury Selectman Mark Kratman said he had spoken with Miceli early in the day.

"Just got off the phone with Representative Jim Miceli. He was calling me on a couple of constituent issues related to the storm on Friday," Kratman said. "I knew it wouldn't take him long to get back out there working for Tewksbury. So happy that he is feeling better."

Miceli, 82, collapsed during a strategy meeting of House Democrats in Boston last Wednesday. Rep. Alan Silvia (D-Fall River) told State House News Service that Miceli appeared to be conscious as he was loaded into an ambulance.

"It was scary. I'm worried," Silvia said. By Wednesday night, an aide to Miceli said he was in stable condition

Miceli has represented Wilmington and Tewksbury since 1977 and announced he would be running for reelection after having hip replacement surgery a year ago. His likely Republican opponent in November's election, Pina Prizivalli of Tewksbury, has waged an aggressive social media campaign and has attacked Miceli's vote last year to approve a raise for state lawmakers.
