Scott Duarte and Austin Prep Take Second at Super 8
The Austin Preparatory School boys hockey team, featuring one Tewksbury resident, took an early lead on Sunday before falling to three-time champ Malden Catholic.

A young Austin Prep boys hockey team, featuring one Tewksbury resident, wasn't enough to handle now three-time champion Malden Catholic in the Super 8 final. But don't be surprised to see the Cougars on the ice of TD Garden again in the very near future.
Austin Prep scored 14 seconds into Sunday's Division 1A title game, but the Lancers scored the next three goals of the game. As a result, Tewksbury's Scott Duarte and his teammates were forced to settle for second place after eventually suffering a 3-2 setback.
But the Cougars graduate just six seniors from their team, though one of them will be leading scorer Nolan Vesey. Still, a large amount of young talent is eligible to return next year, including Duarte, who did not see heavy minutes this year but is only a sophomore.

"I can't be more proud of them," said head coach Louis Finocchiaro after the game. "Obviously we're not happy with losing. We came here with all intentions of winning a hockey game, and we believed we could. But what I'm most proud of my kids is we continued to compete until the final buzzer."
