UPDATED: Sears Contemplating Run For State Representative

Nomination papers can be taken out in February.

For a man who is supposed to be retired, Doug Sears keeps himself pretty busy and appears ready to take on a new challenge.

The Tewksbury selectman and semi-retired attorney has told family and friends that he is considering a run for state representative.

Contacted by telephone, Sears said he had not yet made a final decision but was giving "serious consideration" to running for the Republican nomination in the 19th Middlesex District.

Sears won a third term as selectman in April.

Should Sears decide to run, he will have his work cut out for him. Incumbent state Rep. Jim Miceli, D-Wilmington has held the seat for 35 years.

Reached by telephone, Marchese confirmed that he would not be running for state rep. this year. Rather, he said he has taken out papers to run for another term on the Wilmington School Committee. He cited the new high school project and other local priorities as reasons for seeking another term on the committee.

The primary for state representative will take place in September, with the general election in November.
