Selectmen Create Committee To Review Tewksbury's Bylaws

Selectmen said a number of the town's non-zoning bylaws are out of date and need updating.

TEWKSBURY, MA — The Tewksbury Board of Selectmen voted Tuesday to create a General Bylaw Review Committee which would examine what town bylaws need updating or re-writing.

The committee will handle only non-zoning bylaws, as the complement to the existing Zoning Bylaw Review Committee. Its recommendations will be brought to the Board of Selectmen, which will present them to town meeting for approval.

The town's bylaws have not been reviewed in "forever and a day," Board of Selectmen Chairman Jay Kelly said.

"We have a number of bylaws that are outdated and need to be brought in line with the 21st century," said Selectman Jayne Wellman.

The Board of Selectmen will appoint five members to serve one year terms or until the committee's work is completed. Kelly and Town Manager Richard Montuori will finalize the committee's framework and advertise the positions.
