Snow In Tewksbury: What You Need To Know

We have all the details on what you need to know to weather Thursday's storm.

TEWKSBURY, MA -- Tewksbury said Wednesday that schools and town offices would be closed on Thursday and trash collection would be delayed another day this week, to Friday from Thursday, as a result of the predicted winter storm. Trash collection had already been delayed one day this week because of Monday's New Year's holiday. The town will be picking up trash and RED recycling on January 5, and all items need to be out to the curb by 7 am for pickup by Republic Services.

The town has yet to decide whether or not schools will be closed Thursday, but Tewksbury is reminding residents about its snow removal procedures. Thursday's storm is expected to bring as much as a foot of snow and blizzard-like conditions to the region.

The town does not typically declare snow emergencies, as it bans on-street parking between the hours of midnight and 6 am between November 1 and April 1 and at any time when snow or icy conditions are present to make sure it can clear snow from roadways. Vehicles that violate the winter parking ban will be ticketed and towed by the Police Department at the owner’s expense.

Questions regarding parking restrictions should be referred to either the Town Clerk's Office at (978) 640-4355 or to the Police Department at (978) 640-4381, Monday thru Friday between the hours of 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM.

Tewksbury has 11 snow removal vehicles and begins plowing when snow reaches a depth of 2-3 inches. The entire plowing operation typically takes six hours, not counting pre-treatment of roads prior to a storm and post-storm work to remove ice and clear sidewalks.
