UPDATED: Suspect in Wilmington, Tewksbury Police Chase Identified
BREAKING: Police say the suspect fled on foot after crashing into the back yard of a residence on Aspen Drive in Wilmington.
TEWKSBURY, MA — The suspect who led police on a chase through Tewksbury and Wilmington Tuesday night into Wednesday morning has been arrested in Tewksbury, according to the Wilmington Police Department.
Wilmington Police identified the suspect as Xavier Mejia, 24, of Boston.
According to police, officers were made aware of a 2014 Hyundai Tuscon SUV that had been reported stolen out of Boston and located the vehicle parked on New Hampshire Road in Wilmington. When officers approached the vehicle, the vehicle sped off and struck the front end of a police cruiser.

Police say the vehicle later fled a short distance before crashing in the backyard of an Aspen Road residents and the operator identified as Meija fled on foot, spawning a search by the State, Wilmington, Tewksbury and Billerica police departments in the area of Nichols Street in Wilmington and South Street in Tewksbury.
Mejia evaded police until Wednesday morning, when he was spotted off of Salem Street in Tewksbury, and evaded police until he was captured by a Tewksbury police officer in a wooded area off Carlton Road in Tewksbury.

Wilmington Police announced the suspect's capture at around 10 a.m.
Mejia faces multiple charges including receiving a stolen vehicle, assault and battery on a police officer, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, resisting arrest and failure to stop for police.
