Tewksbury Seacoast Red Pride rebound with sweep of the Sanborn Little Indians.

The Seacoast Red Pride A team got back to their winning ways with a regular season finale victory over the Sanborn Little Indians 14-0.

The Red Pride Co-Captains Giovanni Ciampa and Zachary Frontain lead the team on both sides of the ball to the much needed victory which secures Tewksbury Red’s place to play in the post season.  Frontain shined on defense with 7 tackles one of which for a considerable loss of yards and pressed through injury to lead by example as center on the offensive line.  While Ciampa dominated both sides of the ball tallying 10 tackles and a staggering 4 tackles for loss including one that forced a fumble and a 30 yard scoop and score by a speedy Johnny Spinelli, who also added 2 tackles himself, for the first points of the game.  Offensively,  Ciampa along with his running mate Brandon Winn grinded out yardage in chucks.  Producing several key first downs and a Winn touchdown run followed by a Ciampa rush for the 2 point conversion.

Defense was truly the strength of the day, key contributors on the morning were; Winn (8 tackles), Mason Brown (5 tackles, 1 pass deflection), Cody Sughrue (4 tackles, 1 INT), Jackson Deroche (6 tackles) and Peter Carey and Jake Durant with 2 tackles each.

Other notable offensive efforts were given by Sam Fortier, Nick Heinze and Jared Mason from the offensive line and Kyle Obst and Steven Wilson from there wide out positions blocking well down field.

Congratulations on a great regular season and best of luck in the playoffs.

Division:  Junior

Team:  Wamesit

Score:  Wamesit 7 Mohawk 0

The Wamesit earned a spot in next week's Superbowl with a hard fought 7-0 victory over a resilient Mohawk team.  Kyle Darrigo took it to the house from 9 yards out on the opening possession for the Wamesit and Nicky Iannacci pushed the ball across the line for the extra point.  The drive was a methodical one with Matt Houghton and Paul Manzi teaming with Darrigo and Iannacci to grind out the yards on the ground behind the blocking of Jack Meuse-Sitar, Matt Brennan, Gavin Thomasset, Felix Navarrete and Aidan Hartman.  The story of the game was the Wamesit defense which pitched a shutout in the biggest game of the year.  The line of scrimmage was dominated by Santino Garofalo, Big Mike Woodford and Robbie Kimtis who combined to keep the Mohawk attack in check.  Big tackles were also turned in by Colin Powers, Zach Hines, Aiden Crogan and Jake Forgione.

After several big penalties, the Wamesit had their backs to the goal line with the game on the line late in the 4th quarter.  But in true Wamesit fashion, the boys showed their character and rose above the fray to preserve the shutout and the victory setting up a showdown with the mighty Cheyenne next week.  Congratulations to the Mohawk for a great season.  They showed a lot of heart and class and gave it their all despite missing a key player.

The Wamesit thank all of their fans who came out in large numbers to offer their vocal support.  And of course, the team would be nowhere without the unwavering support of the talented Wamesit cheerleading squad.  Great job as usual girls!

Division:  Junior

Team:  Mohawks

Score:  Wamesit 7 Mohawks 0

With an early morning fall chill in the air, the Mohawks struggled to pull together both their offense and defense during this critical playoff game against the Wamesit.   Their first possession showed some flutter of hope.  Quickly falling to four down and 17 to go, Mohawk QB Richie Markwarth threw a 20 yard pass to Aiden Doherty, who cleanly caught the ball in the midst of opposition, resulting in a first down.   Unfortunately, the Wamesit defense came on strong against the tired Mohawk offense.   Patrick Flemming, Justin Flynn, Lexia  St. Cyr, Marc Bradley, Aidan Leffler, Cameron Loder, Stephen O’Hearn and Daniel Flemming attempted to block the defense, but continued to come up short.  Wamesit answered by marching the ball down the field during their first possession, and scoring their one and only touchdown early in the first quarter.  In response, Patrick Letourneau and Richie Markwarth with the help of the offensive line struggled to make yardage, ending the first half.

The second half was riddled with numerous penalties, most falling on to the Wamesit, providing much needed yardage to the Mohawk, but taking critical time off the clock.  Possession of the ball was predominately with the leading Wamesit.  The Mohawk defense prevented any additional points with speedy tackling and skillful maneuvering from Aidan Leffler, Asa Derache, Ryan Day, Bobby O’Hearn, and  Antonio Capello.  William Rossato and Tyler Paulding assisted the defense.  Patrick Letourneau made some key defensive moves pushing the Wamesit defense out of bounds and away from end zone.  In the last two minutes of the game, the Mohawks came to life.  The offensive line Danny Flemming, Patrick Flemming and Marc Bradley did their best to poke holes in the Wamesit defensive line.  QB Richie Markwarth rammed the ball for three downs moving the ball down to the 12th yard line with only seconds left on the clock.  In the last seconds of the game, Wamesit broke through the Mohawk offense bringing down the Mohawks in the backfield, ending the game, and the Mohawks chance at the Super Bowl.
