Live Updates:
10:10 a.m.: A lack of faith in the government drove self-employed Tewksbury resident David Lavita, 62, to campaign in favor of Republican nominee Donald Trump outside of the Tewksbury Senior Center Tuesday morning.
"There's no legitimacy to our government anymore," Lavita told Patch." It's all bought and paid for by crooked politicians. Our health insurance is in danger, our deductibles are going up. I'm concerned about the taxes we pay, I'm concerned about law and order, I'm concerned about our national defense and I'm really concerned about the immigrants coming to this country totally un-vetted."
Lavita says that his health insurance deductibles have increase from $2,000 to $4,000 per year, and that he can't continue to afford his increasingly expensive health insurance plan.
"I have kids, and I have a business," Lavita said."I see no light at the end of the tunnel, and that's why I am out here today."
10:00 a.m.: Joe Arena, 26, of Tewksbury expressed his distrust in the political system outside of the Tewksbury Senior Center Tuesday afternoon.
"I trust neither," Arena said while campaigning for Senator Barbara L'Italien outside the Tewksbury Senior Center."There's a lot of lobbying interests that I think directly control not only votes but there's more in play, and that's why it's called politics."
Arena also discussed his displeasure with the voting system itself in regards to the electoral college, and said that the popular vote is what is really important.
"The fact that your popular vote doesn't directly mean that someone is going to become president is kind of ridiculous," Arena added. "There was a time where I understood why the electoral college was in place, and that might have applied many many years ago, but I think today a popular vote is an important thing."
