The Tewksbury Girls’ Basketball 6A travel team finished out their regular season on a high note, defeating Pelham, NH on the road by the score of 27-17.

This victory avenges a home loss earlier in the season to this same Pelham team.  This was an outstanding defensive effort by the girls to hold this team to only 17 points.  Pelham has a star player that was held to only 12 points, leaving the rest of the roster to score only 5 total points for the game.

Conversely, the scoring for Tewksbury was very balanced, with 9 different girls scoring and the high scorer only had 5 points.  Special recognition goes out to the three centers on the team, Colleen MacNeil, Kayla Von Kahle, and Alexis Brinklow.  They totally controlled the paint and forced Pelham to look for their offense from the outside.  That was hard to do too, since the perimeter players stopped all dribble penetration and closed out on every shot attempt.

Scoring for the Redmen was Samantha Mercurio with 5 points, Sara Catanzano, Katie Garcia, and Emily Sessa with 4 points each, and 2 points each for Colleen MacNeil, Francesca Cocca, Adrianna Favreau, Alexis Brinklow, and Marissa Doherty. Victoria Mirabito quietly had a great game rebounding and playing defense, and Julia Kelly gave the team some valuable minutes of defensive pressure.

The team finishes the season with a record of 10 wins and 6 losses, and in a tie for fourth place (out of 12 teams in the A division).  The girls now wait to find out their playoff opponent when the tournament begins in two week.  This was a terrific season for the team, as they have already won 3 more games than they did last year as 5th graders.
