Tewksbury Boys U-11- 1 vs. Arlington -2
Tewksbury-1 opened the 2011 season with a strong showing against Arlington-2. The two evenly-matched teams faced off in wonderful weather at Arlington High School. Tewksbury opened the game with an early goal, but Arlington answered quickly. The lead changed hands multiple times during the game and ultimately ended in a hard-fought 9-9 tie. Tewksbury effectively spread the ball around, as evidenced by the team’s seven different goal-scorers. Robert Casey led all scorers with three points on a goal and two assists. Both Anthony Diminico and Patrick Letourneau found the back of the net two times. Michael Arsenault added a goal and an assist. Scoring was rounded out with goals by Kyle Braciska, Andrew Eringis and Brady McFadden. Tewksbury’s defense was impressive as well. Goalie Derek Leffler posted 10 saves in his first start between the pipes. His play was backed up by strong defensive play by Jared Doyle, Patrick Fleming and Jack O’Neill. The team hopes to build on its strong opening next week when they travel to Dracut.

The Tewksbury Boys Lacrosse U13-1 kicked off their season in Arlington, and put on a dominating performance. Goalie Drew Fletcher only allowed the Arlington offense to find the back of the net once, finishing with a 6-1 impressive win. Fletcher was backed up by a solid defensive group of JP Mooney, Patrick Hunt, Ben Connors and Matty McLaughlin who broke up the attacking Arlington advances multiple times with solid defensive checking. The group held Arlington to under 5 shots on net for the entire game, and didn’t allow the attackers to set up any offense. Tewksbury’s offense was sharp and crisp led by middies Kevin Carta, Connor Power, James Cash, and Robbie Gilligan who kept the ball in Arlington’s end for most of the game. Excellent down field passing from the defense to middie Tyler Harvey to attackers Kyle Strong and Shawn O’Neil led to 3 goals by Nick Muise, 1 by Ryan Flynn, 1 from Nick Diminico, and one by Jimmy Strickler. Harvey also made the highlight reels whose rocket shots clanged off the post three times. One text book around the net star passing play almost led to another goal when three attackers Ethan Hepler, Chris Lucas, and Brandon Winn moved the ball around to find middie Brendan Sjostedt driving to the net. A well executed play which will sure to work again in the following weeks. A solid well played game for Tewksbury at every position.
Tewksbury Boys U-15-1 vs. Peabody
Tewksbury’s Boys U15 - Team 1 began their season away at Peabody’s Buckley Field. They suffered a tough loss after playing a tight game, which was tied 4 to 4 at the end of the third quarter and finished 5 to 7 with Peabody on top. Captains for the game were Garrett Christopher; Matt DiFelice, and Paul (PJ) Wild. Tewksbury’s defense was anchored by Garrett Christopher, Ryan Cunningham, Henry Roberts, and their new goalie Jake Marchant. Jake had an outstanding first day in goal with some awesome saves. The offense was able to spread the points around with four players scoring five goals. Goals on offense came from PJ Wild (2), Grant Callahan (1), David Dempsey (1) and defender Henry Roberts (1). The face-off team looked sharp with center middie Matt DiFelice and his teammates doing a great job of winning a majority of the initial possessions. Midfielders Grant Callanan, Mark Gorman, David Lindsey, and Patrick O’ Brien moved the ball quickly into their offensive zone and helped Tewksbury keep possession for a majority of the playing time. The boys have a promising season ahead.
Tewksbury Boys U-15- 2 vs. Littleton
Tewksbury 2 started off the season the right way having an offensive explosion in the first game of the year against a very tough Littleton team. After starting off with a quick 4-0 lead Tewksbury soon found out their opponent would not roll over easy as they went into the halftime in a close 9-6 game. The second half was a different story however as the Redmen shut the Tigers out in the third quarter and eventually went on to win 15-9. In his first game ever as a goalie or lacrosse player, Brendan Cooke made 3 saves and showed a lot of poise in net. Also making their lacrosse debutes were defensemen Tyler Harrington and Jonathan Tower, who each had strong performances making key stick checks and multiple blocked shots. Veterans Joshua Cho and Luc Surette also played well. Leading the offensive charge was the teams leading scorer from last year James Sullivan with 6 goals. Also having multi goal games were Jimmy Hirtle(3), Sean Brady(2), and Colin Quinn(2). Ryan Carey and Brendan O’Connor each had one goal. Other key contributors on offense were Jonathan Verrill, Brendan Kelly, Troy Carey, Rory Foley, Robert Temmallo, and Cameron Connors. Despite missing some other key players in the line up Tewksbury had a pretty balanced game showing a lot of promise on both sides of the ball. The two teams won’t have to wait long to see each other again as they will be playing in a rematch next Sunday 4/17 in Tewksbury.
