Tewksbury Coronavirus Update: Case Total Crosses 200

Data released by the state Wednesday shows the town is in the top 50 municipalities in terms of confirmed coronavirus infection rate.

TEWKSBURY, MA — Over 200 Tewksbury residents have tested positive for the new coronavirus, as of Wednesday afternoon, according to data released by the state. There are 204 confirmed cases in town, or 662 per 100,000 residents.

The town ranks in the top 50 municipalities in confirmed coronavirus rate, according to the state data.

The total cases increased by 34 over the last week, from 168 cases reported by the town April 15. The town has not updated its numbers, and the state data does not include recoveries versus active cases. As of April 15, the vast majority of the town's coronavirus patients had active cases.

The Tewksbury case count includes residents of Tewksbury Hospital, where a major outbreak was reported last week. An Army Reserve medical task force was deployed to the hospital this week.
