Tewksbury Fire Wins Federal Funding For Coronavirus Response

TEWKSBURY, MA — The Tewksbury Fire Department received $50,000 in federal grant funding for responding to the coronavirus, the state announced Tuesday.

The department received the grant to pay overtime for a third ambulance shift.

The state distributed nearly $10 million from the Coronavirus Emergency Supplemental Funding Program in federal grants to over 100 local and state public safety agencies.

“These awards to municipal departments and state agencies across the Commonwealth demonstrate our commitment to providing our police officers, firefighters, and other public safety personnel with the necessary tools to effectively serve their communities while continuing to fight a pandemic,” Gov. Charlie Baker said in a statement.

The largest grants available were $50,000. Sixty-five fire departments and 44 police departments won funding under this program.
