Tewksbury Hikes Residential Property Taxes By 4.8%

The average home owner will pay $6,056, or $214 more, in property taxes in next year..

TEWKSBURY, MA -- The average Tewksbury homeowner will pay $214 more in property taxes next year, while the average condo owner will pay $350 more, following last week's vote by selectmen to raise residential property taxes by 4.8%. The average tax increased are based on the average assessment of a single-family at $375,355 and a condo assessed at $284,755.

Selectmen also approved a 1.4% increase in commercial property tax rates. The rate increases were recommended by Town Manager Richard Montuori. The town projects it will collect $82.4 million in property taxes in 2018, up from $78.7 million this year.

The new tax rates for residential properties $17.09 for every $1,000 of assessed value for residential properties, up 4.8% from $16.31 in 2017. For commercial properties, selectmen voted to raise the tax rate 1.4% to $28.21 from $27.82 in 2017.

For the average home in Tewksbury assessed at $375,355, the total 2018 tax bill would be $6,056 in 2018, up from $5,840 this year. The complete presentation Montuori presented to selectmen on Nov. 7 is available online at the selectmen's meeting packet.
