Tewksbury Library To Host 'Irish Genealogy 1o1' via Zoom on 9/22

Tom Toohey will give his popular presentation.

TEWKSBURY, MA -- The Tewksbury Public Library's new Genealogy Group, which meets the fourth Tuesday evening of every month, is open to everyone who's interested in genealogy.

Each meeting -- which will take place via Zoom -- consists of a presentation from a guest speaker (typically a professional genealogist), followed by a period where members can briefly share their latest genealogy research, and then the library will share a genealogy resource its patrons can access for free.

The presentation for the Tuesday, September 22, 2020 meeting is "Irish Genealogy 101" with Tom Toohey. Space is limited. Registration is required. Register HERE.

The presentation is geared for beginning and intermediate Irish genealogy researchers, but all are welcome. Tom will offer a step-by-step method for finding the home places of Irish ancestors. He'll show techniques that are quick, cheap and easy - research that anyone can do in their PJ’s in their kitchen. This lecture contains music, animation and video and is designed to be entertaining as well as informative.

Tom is a modern day seanchaí (Irish storyteller) who has traveled to Ireland 19 times and collected hundreds of stories. While there, he met many local historians and learned a great deal about early Irish genealogists. In the last few years Tom has recorded his family stories in a five volume book called 'Images of Other Lives.' Tom was a teacher for more than 40 years. He taught all levels from elementary school through graduate school as a public school teacher, adjunct professor and educational consultant.
