Tewksbury Library Hosts Online Help Sessions For Job Seekers

Meetings are free and open to all who are unemployed, underemployed or seeking a change career. Non-Tewksbury residents are welcome.

TEWKSBURY, MA -- Are you one of the 470,000 Massachusetts residents who filed for unemployment over the past 3 weeks? Did you lose your job due to the COVID-19 crisis? The Tewksbury Job Seekers Networking Group is here for you.

The group has been meeting for nearly 8 years at the Tewksbury Public Library. Now with social distancing in effect, the group is currently meeting via Zoom every Monday at 2pm.

Meetings are free and open to all who are unemployed, underemployed or seeking a change career. Non-Tewksbury residents are welcome.

Monday, April 20, 2pm: How To Cope With Job Loss & Stress

Learn how to handle sudden change and stress in your life. Stress can bring on depression and create fear and anger. They can change your outlook on life and cause you to become stagnant, bitter and unproductive. Discover six interesting ways to gain control of your life and break free of the stress cycle. Led by Anne Crawford, a certified life coach that specializes in career transitions. There will be time for networking after the presentation.

Monday, April 27, 2pm: Retirement Planning Tips For The Unemployed

Retirement planning can't stop, sadly, once you're laid off. Learn the considerations you need to know as it relates to Social Society and 401Ks, as well as retirement strategies during difficult times. Led by Jack Wang, CEO of Longhorn Financial LLC, an independent financial services practice. Please note this presentation will be informational in nature and not any sort of "sales pitch." Jack has presented to this group on different issues over the years.

Monday, May 4, 2pm: How To Land A Job In Today's Employment Market with the Boston Globe's Job Doc

Join the Boston Globe’s “Job Doc” Patricia Hunt Sinacole for her presentation, “A Practical Guide To Landing A Job In Today’s Employment Market.” This interactive session will be packed with information to help you become more productive, including: the use/misuse of social media in a search; networking tips; a job hunter’s elevator speech, resumes and references; and job search statistics. Led by Patricia Hunt Sinacole, the CEO and Founder of First Beacon Group, a HR consulting firm.

Monday, May 11, 2pm: How To Start & Grow Your Own Small Business

Learn how the Small Business Administration can assist your dream of starting your own business. Generation information will be provided on the following programs and services: (1) Counseling/Technical Assistance through SBA resource partners; (2) SCORE; (3) Small Business Development Centers; (4) Center for Woman & Enterprise Access to Capital; (5) SBA Advance Loan Guaranty Program; and (6) Government Contract Opportunities. Led by Lisa Gonzalez Welch, Economic Development Specialist with the SBA.

Monday, May 18, 2pm: How To Power Network

Learn all the tools necessary to develop extensive networks that access the hidden job market and that will pay continuing dividends throughout one’s career. Attendees will learn a comprehensive step-by-step process that starts with people they already know and generates a continuing source of new and valued professional contacts. Through networking, many of these contacts become “helpers” in the job search and often become life-long professional or personal friends. Networking in a job search is truly relationship marketing of oneself in his/her target market. The presentation will give attendees a thorough overview of the total person-to-person networking process. Led by Eric Ross, who is often acknowledged as New England’s master networker. Ross landed his most recent position, Chief Operating Officer of New England Renewable Energy Systems, through the networking approach and methods explained in his Power Networking presentation.
