Tewksbury Job Seekers Network: How I Survived A Job Loss, One Breath At A Time
Monday, June 24, 2pm
Find out what's happening in Tewksburyfor free with the latest updates from Patch.
Job loss can have a cascading impact on one’s life. Loss of income is often compounded by a diminished sense of identity or self-worth; lost connections; strains on relationships; changes in lifestyle; threats to financial security; decreased physical and mental health; increased personal and family stress; depression; anxiety; and even higher mortality risk. Dismissal from work ranks in the top 10 Stressful Life Events on the Holmes and Rahe Stress Scale. This presentation acknowledges the deep despair and disempowerment that can accompany the loss of a job, and suggests strategies for coping and renewal, drawn from the presenter’s personal experience. Led by Clare Siska, who spent her career in the publishing and educational technology sectors, holding roles in editorial, content development, and management. In April 2014, Clare was laid off from her longstanding corporate position and found herself in search of her authentic self. She is now the proud owner of Acton Critter Sitters, an award-winning pet sitting business. Clare lives in Acton with her own three dogs and many other visiting critters. ART WEEK: Examining The Work Of Picasso
Thursday, June 27, 10:30am
Whether you swear by him or at him, Picasso was undeniably the most successful and influential artist of the 20th century. He was able to change his style, so quickly, so completely, that he seemed like many different artists. You can't like it all, he made over 50,000 works of art. However, there will be one era, one style, even a single painting, that will make you say; "I didn't know Picasso did that, I love that". In additional to this fascinating lecture, dozens of oversized Picasso reproductions will be on display for viewing. Led by Jane Blair, an artist, art educator in many fine art disciplines, and owner of ARTMatters, an art awareness program serving schools, libraries and senior groups. She has BFA from Boston University, a MFA from the University of Illinois and is a PK-12 certified art educator. Sponsored by the Friends of the Library. Register HERE.
