Tewksbury National 11s Play For Sectional Title Today

Victory over Wakefield moves team into the State Tournament.

The Tewksbury National 11-year-old All-Stars will take on Wakefield today (July 22) at 1 p.m. in Gloucester for the Sectional Championship and a berth in the State Tournament,

This will be the third time the teams have played in the double-elimination tournament. Tewksbury opened the tournament Thursday night by rallying to beat Wakefield, 6-5. On Saturday, Wakefield returned the favor with a 5-2 victory, forcing a deciding game on Sunday.

In the game Thursday, Wakefield jumped out to a 3-0 lead after three innings, but Tewksbury rallied to tie the game with three runs in the fourth.

Matt Perron started things off with a single to right. After a foul out and consecurtive walks by Riley Frost and Josh Papa, Travis MacMurdo stroked a double to left scoring two runs.

Two more walks drawn by Will Timmons and Colby Wilson added another run to tie the game. Strong pitching by Matt Perron kept Wakefield from scoring in their half of the 4th.

In the fifth, Tewksbury National would add two more runs on a single to center by Josh Papa and a passed ball.  In the bottom of the fifth, Wakefield was held scoreless on three quick ground ball outs to Josh Papa at shortstop and Will Timmons at second base.

In the top of the sixth, Cameron Legvold led off with a triple to right field.  Legvold was quickly brought home by Matt Perron's single to right for what proved to be the winning run.

Wakefield would not give up easily, in their half of the sixth, they scored two runs before being shut down by relief pitcher Adam Pacheco who took over for Perron and recorded the final two outs, stranding two runners.
