Tewksbury Police Offer Crash Prevention Training For Teen Drivers

TEWKSBURY — Chief Ryan Columbus is excited to report that the Tewksbury Police Department, in partnership with In Control Crash Prevention and the Executive Office of Public Safety and Security, will offer Crash Prevention 101 Training to teen drivers in Tewksbury.

Thanks to a $39,447 grant from the Executive Office of Public Safety and Security, the Tewksbury Police Department will offer 24 local teens who are licensed or permitted drivers a free opportunity to take Crash Prevention 101 Training offered by the non-profit group In Control.

The course, "Crash Prevention 101 - Introduction to Crash Prevention," educates drivers about year-round road hazards through a combination of classroom lessons, group exercises and one-on-one driving instruction.

The department will use part of its state grant funding to pay for 24 teenagers from Tewksbury to take the training, which aims to prevent injuries and deaths on local roads. The training will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis.

Teen drivers who complete the program will not only save approximately $350 by taking the course for free, but they will also qualify for auto insurance discounts, and greatly reduce their risk of being in a crash.
