Tewksbury Police Offering Narcan Training

The department is teaming with the Middlesex DA's Office and Lowell General Hospital to offer the session on the anti-overdose drug.

TEWKSBURY, MA -- As Tewksbury continues to struggle with the opioid epidemic, the town's police department will be offering a free training session on the use of the anti-overdose drug Narcan. The July 23 event will be at 6 pm in the first floor conference room on the Saints Campus at Lowell General Hospital. The event is being co-sponsored by the Middlesex District Attorney's office and the hospital.

Dr. Jonathan Drake, the hospital's emergency medicine and emergency medical services director, will lead the session. Drake will teach attendees how to administer Narcan, which can reverse overdoses in opiate users.The Tewksbury Police Department will provide the Narcan supplies.

There were nine fatal overdoses in Tewksbury in 2017 and 13 in 2016.
