Tewksbury Police: Traps, Cameras Put Out To Catch 'Monkey'

TEWSKBURY, MA—Officers with the Tewksbury Police Department announced Thursday animal control will be setting up cameras and traps to catch a possible monkey spotted in town.

On Wednesday around 11:30 a.m., officers received a call from the Michael Street area reporting what appeared to be a primate in the tree line of their backyard.

Using an ATV and drone units, Tewksbury police and animal control searched the area of Michael Street, which abuts the State Hospital ground; however, they said they did not see any signs of the so-called monkey.

“At this time, we are not sure what type of animal the resident may have seen,” police said in a news release.

If caught, police said they will relocate the animal to a safe location.

If seen, police are asking the community to not approach or feed it. If spotted, residents are urged to call 978-851-7373.
