IN PERSON: Adult Trivia Night -- Halloween Edition (*RR)

Tuesday, October 13, 6:30pm

Test your knowledge of all things Halloween and horror by answering 50 questions (five rounds of 10). Organize a team or play solo and be your own team! Join us for a fun night of snacks, prizes, and trivia!

IN PERSON: English Conversation Group (*RR)

Tuesday, October 13, 7pm

English At Large is running an English Conversation Group in Tewksbury. Conversation groups are groups of 8 -12 adult learners who meet weekly for 90 minutes to practice English speaking and listening skills. All groups are free! Groups are in person and are for adults who speak English at an intermediate or advanced level. You should be able to have a conversation in English. Conversation groups are not classes. Volunteer facilitators focus on listening and speaking.

IN PERSON: Mah Jongg Meetup (*RR)

Join us for a monthly meetup to play American Mah Jongg! The Library is excited to offer Mah Jongg sets, tables (including a limited number of card tables), and an inviting space to play. National Mah Jongg League rules will be followed. If you already have a NMJL Card of Standard Hands and Rules, please bring it with you. Please note that no instruction will be offered during this program.

After a young couple witnesses a gruesome highway accident, they soon realize they did not leave the crash scene alone, as a demonic presence called the Passenger won't stop until it claims them both. Explore sights and sounds from a recent trip, learn how history shaped what is seen there today, and receive some valuable tips on planning your own trip. Led by Gene Flynn, an Illinois native, who has taught at the College of Lake County and Harper College, and serves on the board of the Institute for Continued Learning at Roosevelt University. He frequently gives travel presentations to libraries and senior centers around the country, and has traveled to more than a dozen European countries.

Discover the major turning points in the Cuba-U.S. relationship while looking at the current tightening of sanctions; U.S. attacks on Venezuela and on boats in the Caribbean; changes in U.S. migration policy; threats of invasion; and the Rubio Cuba Memo. Led by Aviva Chomsky, an American historian, author, and activist. She is a professor of History and the Coordinator of Latin American, Latino, and Caribbean Studies at Salem State University.

VIRTUAL: The Beauty Of Glass -- The Works Of John La Farge (*RR)

Explore the work of John La Farge (1835-1910), an American artist who revolutionized the art of stained glass. La Farge made stained glass windows mainly for churches on the American east coast, beginning with a large commission for Henry Hobson Richardson’s Trinity Church in Boston in 1878, and continuing for thirty years. La Farge designed stained glass as an artist as well as a technical innovator, holding a patent granted in 1880 for superimposing panes of glass. He invented opalescent glass, which produced spectacular effects for his window designs. Led by Martha Chiarchiaro, who received her Masters’ degree in the History of Art from Williams College and provides a variety of art history presentations for the Worcester Art Museum, for WISE (the Worcester Institute for Senior Education), libraries, garden clubs, and senior centers. Martha's specialty presentations -- related to specific periods, artists, and activities -- provide an in-depth look at the life and times of people through their art.

Discover how the role emotions play in procrastination, why it is often harder for neurodiverse people to get started, and how anxiety can both get in your way and push you to action. Learn strategies for managing and getting past the emotions that so often get in your way, so you can live a better, more successful life. Mahan, M.Ed., MS., is an internationally recognized ADHD/Executive Function expert, and the producer and host of the “ADHD Essentials” podcast.

VIRTUAL: British Secret Service Networks In World Wars I & II (*RR)

Author and historian Helen Fry will discuss her new book, The White Lady: The Story of Two Key British Secret Service Networks Behind German Lines. Intelligence gathering was essential to both sides in the First and Second World Wars. At the heart of MI6’s efforts were two key networks in Belgium. Agents in The White Lady acted as couriers, radio operators and spies to facilitate the end of German control. And, when war broke out again two decades later, the leaders of the network regrouped and established a successor: The Clarence Service. Helen Fry is the author of over twenty books focusing on intelligence and POWs in World War II. She consulted on the docudrama "Spying on Hitler’s Army" and appeared in BBC’s "Home Front Heroes."

The American Library Association has teamed up with Pokémon to bring Pokémon Clubs to libraries nationwide, and our library is one of them! Join us for our revamped and expanded Pokémon Club.

Want to learn how to play? Already a seasoned battler? Just a Pokémon fan in general? No matter your level or interest, there is a place for you here! This event is for children in grades K-5. No registration required.

IN PERSON: Preschool Playgroup

Preschool playgroup is a weekly group where kids can meet, play, and learn. Pick up STEM and early literacy skills, and have some fun while you're at it! Sponsored by Community Teamwork Inc's Family Resource Network. The Family Resource Network is funded by the Coordinated Family and Community Engagement Grant (CFCE) from the Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care.

Always wanted to play D&D but no idea how to get started? Join John Palmer as teaches you the ins and outs of Dungeons & Dragons. After he sets you up with the basics, you'll play in your very first one-shot game! As creativity can take us down many roads, this event may end anywhere between 8:00-8:30pm.
