Tewksbury resident recognized for 30 years with Cummings Properties

Tewksbury resident John DiRusso was recently recognized by Cummings Properties for 30 years of service. During an annual event at the Hilton Boston/Woburn, the suburban commercial real estate firm presented awards to 15 staff members who reached employment milestones during the past year.

DiRusso and four other colleagues reaching their 30th year of service with Cummings Properties each received a “Stephens Chair,” an engraved captain’s chair named in honor of Douglas Stephens, the Company's late treasurer and first 30-year colleague. Six staff members, including Tewksbury resident Kerry Goodwin, received commemorative clocks to mark 10 years with the Company.

In addition, Cummings Properties presented designer watches to four employees celebrating 20th anniversaries.

DiRusso is a mechanical systems manager at the Company’s Woburn headquarters. He previously held multiple roles within the firm, starting as an apprentice plumber, earning his Master Plumber certification, and acting as plumbing team leader and associate division manager in Beverly and Woburn. He has contributed his skills and expertise to many significant projects, including 92 Montvale Avenue in Stoneham, TradeCenter 128 in Woburn, and the transformation of Woburn’s Choate Hospital into the New Horizons at Choate retirement community.

“John has trained and mentored so many colleagues over the years, including me,” said Greg Ahearn, vice president of field operations. “He is also very proactive – always looking to resolve potential problems before they happen.”

DiRusso has three sons, all of whom have worked for Cummings Properties at one time. He is a music buff and a talented guitar player. Just as good with a pool cue as with a guitar, DiRusso enjoys playing billiards in his spare time. Tewksbury has been his home for the past 28 years.

Since its founding in 1970, Cummings Properties has frequently promoted from within, and reportedly has never had a layoff. With a portfolio of 10 million square feet of commercial space in the greater Boston area, the firm currently has more than 360 staff members from a variety of disciplines, including architecture, engineering, construction, sales, graphic design, accounting, and legal.
