TEWKSBURY, MA — Allie Carr, a Tewksbury eighth grader, is currently a national finalist in Colossal’s America’s Favorite Student competition.

The contest is a nationwide campaign raising funds and awareness for The Planetary Society, which ends this Thursday, May 21.

Allie attended a Girl Scout Women in Aviation event last year, where she met the STEM Flights organization, according to a statement. She was partnered with a mentor pilot and was able to take her first flight in the cockpit with him.

She has gone door to door and business to business to ask for support. Last weekend she went to he beach, handing out business cards for her competition and sharing her story.

The America’s Favorite Student program is a nationwide competition where one student is chosen to share their educational journey in Reader’s Digest, tour The Planetary Society with Bill Nye and win $20,000.

Allie wants to use her $20,000 to fund flight lessons to become a pilot.

The final round of the competition is "proving to be quite difficult and Allie is struggling to stay at the top," according to the statement. "She needs all the help she can get to share her story across social media and to vote daily."

The program supports The Planetary Society’s mission to inspire curiosity and help shape the future of space exploration.

Allie is also an honor roll student, a competitive gymnast at Reading Gymnastics Academy, and a member of the Wynn Middle School choir. She has been working on her Confirmation preparation at Saint Augustine’s Parish in Andover, is completing her Girl Scout Silver Award and volunteers at Strongwater Farm in Tewksbury.
