For starters, I hope everyone had a great holiday and spent some quality time with their families. I do apologize for the delay in this article, I wasn't around the computer, being all busy with Christmas, as I'm sure many of you were.
I would also like to thank former Redmen Captain Derek Petti for helping me out with this information of the game that took place on Monday, the 23rd, as I was unable to make the game due to work. But we shall proceed.
Playing Chelmsford every year is a big game for Tewksbury. Being able to defeat Chelmsford is even bigger. Tewksbury came into the game with a 1-1 record, dropping a game to North Andover, and winning the season opener against Haverhill.
Tewksbury went into the Chelmsford Forum on Monday with a big W in mind, and nothing else.
The first period was even overall on both sides. Although, within the first few minutes of the game, Chelmsford stormed down on a 2 on 1, and Senior Forward Jesse Lye put home the puck to give Chelmsford the 1-0 advantage early on. This early goal did nothing but wake the Redmen up.
The second period started and Tewksbury came out hot. Putting a ton of offensive pressure on Chelmsford, they were able to bury 2 goals within the first half of the period. Junior Forward Dario Riparo skated into the zone and ripped a snapshot from the left hashmark past Chelmsford's goaltender to tie it up.
A blink of the eye later, Senior Defenseman Rob Cutone fired a slapshot on net, but before it reached the tender, Junior Forward Derek Castiglione redirected the puck into the back of the net.
Tewksbury wasn't all about the offense though. With 1:19 left in the second, Junior Ryan Petti went to the box, and the Redmen shows off their penalty killing skills. With some great saves on that PK by goalie Kyle "Simba" Paquette, they managed to skate into the 3rd leading 2-1.
The third period was as close to a mirror image to the second as you can get. Tewksbury came out white hot. and Ryan Petti redeemed his earlier penalty netting his first goal of the season as he sped past the defense of Chelmsford and backhanded the puck top shelf. The game just coasted along at that point until Petti netted his second of the game as he, yet again, backhanded the puck home from the red line onto the empty net.
Tewksbury proved who they were today, showed they could hang with anyone in the conference, with this impressive 4-1 victory.
At the moment, Tewksbury is taking the ice up in their annual Maine Tournament. Once the tournament goes final tomorrow, a recap of those 3 games will be available to all of you.
For those of you who did not make the Maine trip (probably a majority), the next game Tewksbury plays is on Saturday, January 4th, as they face off with Concord-Carlisle, in Bedford, at The Edge Sports Center at 7:30 PM.
Hope to see some of you there!
