Despite losing 5-2 the girls showed promise in several key areas of the game. The outstanding play of the defensive teams, lead by Caitlin Carroll and June Garcia was tops on the list with the Lady Redman shutting down the Tyngsboro offense four times in the first half with defensive crashes to kill shots on goal from inside the 8 meter mark.

This great defensive effort lead to Tewksbury holding Tyngsboro to a 2-1 lead at half time with Izabella De Veer getting the first goal of Tewksbury’s season rolling to the front of the net and beating the Tyngsboro Goalie off stick. Tewksbury’s second half gave promise with another great defensive play when they set up a perfect double team at the top of the 8 meter arc that caused an offensive charging foul.
Comments of the teams play cannot go without mentioning the transition play of the Attack team of Ashley Maiuri, Amanda Aylward and Caleigh Finneral who’s rides gave their middie lines enough time to set up in defense and were the cause of several turnovers by Tyngsboro at midfield. Tewksbury’s second goal of the game came on a last scoring drive that traveled the length of the field.

The play started with outlet passes by Delaney Chisholm and Heather Doyle got her very first assist of her lacrosse career by drawing the defense to her at the restraining line after picking up a ground ball and making a pass to a hard charging Nicki Santora who netted her first goal of the season stick side high. In the end the Tyngsboro coaches remarked that it was hard to believe this was their first game of the year.
