Tewksbury Youth Football Recap Week Two

Tewksbury Youth Blue 16 Sanborn 6

Tewksbury Youth Blue traveled to Sanborn this weekend to play game 2 of this 2014 Season. As the game started, Sanborn came out running hard and scored on the 1st play of the game with a 75 yard run. Blue Defense did however stop the 2 point conversion to hold them at 6-0. When Tewksbury Blue Offense stepped on the field, they came out running with some great blocking from Keith Johnson, Maximus Mattuchio and Jason Svendsen which allowed the Quarterback Nick DeGloria to break some long runs picking up 40 yards on 3 carriers. After converting two 1st downs with some great runs from Ryan Fleming who rushed for over 55 yards, they ended up punting the ball back to Sanborn. This time around, Tewksbury Defense was on fire with some great tackling from Joseph Barletta, Liam Kelly, Kenny Ryder and Fleming. As the 1st half came to an end Sanborn was up 6-0.

In the 2nd Half Tewksbury Offense made some adjustments and started off with the ball and ran it right up the middle with some great running from Ryder who had 5 carries for45 yards setting up the 1st touchdown of the game for Tewksbury with a Quarterback sweep from DeGloria 15 yards out. Tewksbury also converted on the 2 point conversation with another great run from Ryder to make it 8-6 Tewksbury. When Tewksbury Defense returned to the field they continued to stop the run with some hard hits/tackles from Mattuchio, Johnson, Cameron Kearney, William Holloway and Brandan Aylward. Sanborn then attempted a pitch sweep but was stop by Mattuchio who had a great interception and a 10 yard return run to give Tewksbury Offense great field position as the 3rd quarter came to an end.

In the 4th Quarter, Kearney took over the OB position to allow DeGloria, Flemming and Vincent Ciancio to move the ball down the field. This Offense charge was lead with some outstanding blocking by Ryan Bencharter, Timmy Bradley and Alex Dellorusso. On 3rd down, DeGloria executed a busted play to pick up his 2nd TD of the day with a 8 yard run. Tewksbury was also successfully again on the 2pt conversion with Fleming taking the ball up and breaking to the right to give his team the lead 16-6.

Sanborn was not done yet, as the they took over on offense , they were playing hard but Tewksbury’s Defense was not letting down and this time with the help from Kyle Reynolds, Jason Lavoie and Andrew Candeloro, who all helped stop Sanborn as the clock ran down. This win gave Tewksbury Blue their 1st win of the 2014 Season. Great game played by all.

Junior Division

5th & 6th Grade

Tewksbury Red Pride 48 – Chelsea Red Devils 6

The Tewksbury Red Pride 5th/6th Grade teams continued their winning ways this past week posting wins in both the A and B team games over the determined Chelsea Red Devils, posting scores of 48-6 and 20-12 respectively.

The A squad saw each of the 6 touchdowns on the morning scored by different Red Pride players providing a true balanced attack. The scoring began early after a fumble recovered by the ferocious Red Pride Defense. Tewksbury drove down the short field ending with an 8 yard run by Will McKay for the score, extra points added by Mark Bradley. The very next series saw Ethan Exilhomme break loose for a 17 yard dash to the end zone, two point conversion added by Kyle Darrigo. Still in the first quarter Darrigo got barreled for 40 yards to pay dirt, extra points earned by McKay. Following a sustained drive Dan Fleming made an acrobatic catch of a Bradley throw in the back of the end zone capturing another 6 points; McKay collected another two point conversion. Just before the half Bradley added his first TD of the season; Bradley also added the extra points as well.

The second half consisted of a fresh set of Red Pride runners and they picked up right where their predecessors left off. Several bruising runs by quarterback Colin Bozek set up Cameron Cimmino to score on a 15 yard sprint for his first touchdown, Cimmino also added the conversion. None of this offensive assault would have been possible without the steadfast efforts of the big young men up front. The offensive line dominated play and consisting of Gauge Dobson, Anthony Op, Gavin Thomasset, Lucus Tryder and Cimmino.

The defense again pitch a shutout as the only Chelsea points of the day came off an electric kick return by the visitors. The sidelines patrolled by Bradley and Fleming locked down all attempts by the speedy Chelsea offense to turn the corners. Linebacker Bozak was in on numerous stops while the platooning defensive front of Aiden Leffler and Steve Arsenault proved unmovable.

Tewksbury Red JV Team 20 – Chelsea JV 12

The Tewksbury Red B squad had to fight from behind most of the morning to earn its second victory in a row. After falling behind 12-0 in the first quarter it was not until Dan Fleming dazzled the home crowd when he took a broken play 60 yards to get the Red Pride on the score board, Aidan Hartman scored the 2 point conversion. Then shortly after that touchdown, Tewksbury scored once more before the first half break. Fleming again kept the ball for a 10 yard touchdown, extra points attempt failed. The scoring on the day was capped by a perfect pass and catch by Fleming to Patrick Marcley over 20 yards for the touchdown, two-point conversion failed.

Bending but not breaking the B squad defense sured themselves up and shut down the quick running backs for Chelsea. Playing well defensively was Cole Kimtas, Sean Lane, Justin Flynn and Brady Renn. One of the many highlights came from Nick Smith who caused and recovered a fumble in Red Devil territory. The Tewksbury Red Pride 5th/6th grade team travels to Sanborn next week.

Tewksbury Blue Pride 22 – Timberlane Tornadoes 0

The Blue bounced back today with an impressive win on the road against the Timberlane Tornadoes. After a slow start on the day, the offense kicked it up in the 2nd quarter finally getting on the board for the first time this season. After going 3 and out twice, Aaron Connelly recovered a fumble after a punt and the Blue Pride took advantage of the mistake. Two plays later Hunter DeLonais ran 50 yards until getting knocked out of bounce at the 6 yard line. Timberlane stopped the Blue from scoring. The defense took over and stopped Timberlane after three plays. DeLonais had another impressive run again getting caught on the 6 yard line. Rory Power punched it in for the only score of the 1st half.

In the 3rd quarter the offense started moving the ball well. Solid blocking came alive from Asa Deroche, Lexcia St. Cyr, Mike Duggan, Richie Lavargna, and Owen Hernandez. The offense was moved by QB Cameron Paolillo, Running backs Sean Fahey, Mike Kelly, Hunter DeLonais and Rory Powers. The first score of the 3rd quarter came on a defensive stand by the Blue after Mike Kelly picked the pass from Timberlane and ran it 33 yards into the end zone. Rory Power scored the conversion making the score 14-0. The game became a defensive battle for the rest of the day. The Blue Pride defense stepped up their game and Lexcia St. Cyr and Asa Deroche both had big sacks and numerous tackles on the day pushing the Tornadoes on their heels. The Blue secondary proved it would be hard to pass causing many disruptions in the air attack from the Tornadoes. Sean Kaiser, Danny Lightfoot, Drew Timmons and Sean Fahey all created havoc on Timberlane offense.

The final score of the game came midway thru the 4th quarter after an impressive march down field with some impressive pounding runs by Sean Fahey, Cam Paolillo, and Mike Kelly. Rory Power score his second touchdown of the day followed by the conversion from Hunter DeLonais making the score 22 – 0. The defense shut down the final drive from Timberlane with sacks by Asa Deroche and Lexcia St. Cyr who were both named players of the game. Next week Blue Pride faces Winnacunnet for their first home game of their season at 9AM on Saturday. The Blue Pride would like to think the cheerleaders for traveling with them to Timberlane. You could hear the cheers from the likes of Alanna Charron, Colleen Crail, Kileigh Crail, Kacey Durham, Bianca Garofalo and Mia Eloi. Those loud cheers helped bring in this victory and kept the players pumped up all day.
