Tewksbury Youth Football Kicks Off Its 2011 Season
Red Pride squads split games with Portsmouth; Blue Pride teams pick up a win and a tie.

Bedford 28 Tewksbury 6
Tewksbury Division 2 Varsity Team had a tough go of it in Bedford, NH Saturday night. The Red Pride lost key starting players (Aaron Whitehouse and Justin Keough) in the first quarter. Dave Lindsey jumped in at cornerback for Whitehouse, while Tyler Ward filled in for Keough at cornerback and running back. Billy Tamboli, Tyler Ward and Matt Fortier ran for some tough, hard runs.

The Red Pride had a few defensive standouts in Brett McAllister with a couple of sacks and Tyler Ward playing steady ball for the injured Keough.
The Division 2 Junior Varsity team had a tough battle Saturday night. Mohammed Yatim scored the team’s only touchdown which was set up by some nice runs by Tyler Ward. QB TJ Taddia did a good job controlling the offense.

Seacoast Travel League – Red Pride
Portsmouth 18 Tewksbury 8
Tewksbury Seacoast Red Pride A Team fall the defending Champions Portsmouth. The 5th/6th grade Red Pride A/B teams opened the season by traveling to Portsmouth, NH to battle the Little Clippers. The Red Pride, A team came up short on the morning by a final score of 18-8.
After recovering an opening kickoff, onsides kick the Red Pride and quarterback Cody Sughrue took to the field. It took all of a quarter and a half to settle in but behind the blocking of Jared Mason, Zach Frontain and Jackson Deroche the Red found their stride. Midway through the 2nd quarter those efforts paid off as they sprung Brandon Winn through the middle for a 40 yard run for the first points of this new travel era. This was immediately followed by a 2 point conversion around the edge by Cody Sughrue.
The Defense was tested all day by a solid Portsmouth squad. In the 2nd half the defense settled in and caused trouble in the trenches. The defensive line play was excellent, lead by Giovanni Ciampa and his teammates Mason Brown and Deroche. Also stepping up to the challenge was the secondary spearheaded by safety Kyle Obst who snagged his first interception of the season.
Other notable efforts were given by special team players Steven Wilson and Peter Carey. Also, Nick Heinze and Anthony Medeiros gave a great effort throughout the day from both sides of the ball.
Tewksbury 14 Portsmouth 6
The Seacoast Red Pride B team, however, prevailed in a 14-6 decision over the home team. The offense stalled in the first half and found themselves down by 6 at the midway point. After some half time offensive line changes a re energized squad lead by Francis Pino controlled the final quarters. The offensive line of David Aznavoorian, Tanner Lentz, Zach Weitz, Conner Nugent and Jared Gillis played with purpose and controlled their front. The first scoring drive was highlighted by slashing runs by Kyle Zervas taking large chunks at a time. The drive was capped by a 10 yard run off the right side by Pino behind a pulling Aznavoorian. The 2 point conversion was converted on a powerful run by Zervas. It was not long before the Red Pride were back in the sights of the end zone. This time the pass catch battery of Josh Sughrue throwing to Pino who raced 20 yards to pay dirt for his second of the contest.
The B squads defense stood determined behind the efforts of Jake Ruocchio, Brandon Pote, Trace Trant and Weitz. The D was its strongest when it mattered most. A 4 down goal line stand from our own 1 yard line. After stuffing all attempts to run the exclamation point of the effort was the 4th and goal interception in the end zone by Kyle Zervas ending the threat and the game.
Seacoast Travel League – Blue Pride
Tewksbury 20 Winnacunnett 14
The Tewksbury 5/6 Blue Pride travel A and B teams opened their regular season against the Winnacunnett Warriors at home on Saturday, 10 Sep 11. This is the first time the 5/6 grade has been in a travel league. The kids play in the Seacoast Junior Football League. The A team came out on top by a score of 20 – 14. The scoring was led by Jesse Lamarca with 3 TD runs of 1, 6 and 11 yards. Masyn Lorick scored 1 extra point. The offensive line did a great job of blocking allowing Lamarca, Lorick and Nolan Kavanaugh to break many long runs. The defense played an excellent game after allowing an opening drive touchdown by the Warriors. The defense was led by Joe Rosberg, Gavin MacDonald, Christopher Lucas, Brendan Studley, Edwin Ortiz and Christian Erbetta on the defensive line. Other key contributors to the very good defensive effort were Trevor Nickerson, Kyle Privetera, Alec Hirtle, Chris Monteneri, Shane Darrigo, Troy Acconcia and Aaron Kennen. The kids showed great heart and effort against a very good Warrior squad.
Tewksbury 0 Winnacunnett 0
The second game of the day by the B team ended with the Tewksbury Blue team driving down the field in a 0 – 0 game. The offense ran out of time and the game ended in a 0 – 0 tie. The kids played very well on both sides of the ball. The offense gained many yards behind the blocking of Eric Szloch, Alex Sousa, Owen Steen, Michael Steen and Joshue Gill. The ball carrier combination of; James Connolly, Connor Brincklow, Daniel Mottolo, and Tyler Wilson had many good runs. On defense, the kids gave up very few yards and had many stops in the back field. The defense of Jamesie Cash, Jimmy Strickler, Jacob Garland, Colby Wilson, Dominic Jolly, Derek Schumaker, Adam Hines, Mackin MacDonald and Joseph White held the Warrior offense in check throughout the game. The coaches and players would like to thank the Cheerleaders for a very nice job.
Junior Division
Comanche 18 Wamesit 12
The Wamesit and Comanche kicked off the 2011 season on a picture perfect day with the Wamesit adorning black wristbands to commemorate the 10 year anniversary of the tragic events of 9/11. Matt Houghton opened up the scoring with a nifty 23 yard scamper behind the blocking of Gavin Thomassett, Collin Powers, Matt Brennan and Jack Meuse-Sitar. With the game tied at 6, Kyle Darrigo put the Wamesit ahead on the last play of the half with a 12 yd run. The play was made possible by Nicky Iannacci who took the first handoff and was immediately swarmed by the defense, but he fought to stay up just long enough to get the second handoff off to Darrigo on the double reverse. Darrigo followed a crushing block by Houghton to paydirt. The defense played a solid game for the most part but had a couple of breakdowns leading to some big plays. Santino Garafalo, Robbie Kimtis, Mike Woodford, Jason Elias, Paul Manzi, Aiden Crogan, Jake Forgione, Aidan Hartman, Zach Hines and Felix Navarrete all made contributions on the defensive end.
Congratulations to the Comanche for a hard fought 18-12 win. The Wamesit thank their fans and cheerleading squad for all of their support.
Comanche 18 Wamesit 12
Comanche’s stop the Wamesit in the opener for both teams today. The Comanche Team came out today looking for their first win in four years. They managed to shut down the Wamesit offensive attack in the second half with some great defensive plays by Sean Fahey, Billy Chase, Nolan Timmons and Matt Rosemond. They worked hard all day shutting down the outside run and forcing the Wamesit Offensive to go to the air. The Comanche team went down early in the first half six to nothing but came back strong with a 4th and long by Billy Chase up the middle for a 57 yard touchdown run to close out the 1st quarter. The 2nd quarter was a battle with the Wamesit scoring another touchdown to close out the half. Halftime entertainment was exciting as the Cheerleading Squads from both team performed for the spectators in attendance. The Comanches shut down the Wamesit attack in the 2nd half keeping them from scoring. This allowed the Comanche Offense to run and play solid football to bring in the win for the first time in four years. The first score of the 2nd half came behind some incredible blocking by Andrew Farrell, Mike Rosa, Ryan Keane, Ed Clement, Patrick Rosemond, Lucus Tryder, and Sean Phaneuf who all executed well on the line. Quarterback Hunter DeLonais called a sweep to Nolan Timmons who scored the 2nd Comanche touchdown tying the score at the end of the 3rd quarter. The Defense again shut down the Wamesit Offense with strong plays by Sean Fahey, Colin Bozek and Liam MacDonald. Matt Rosemond came in as quarterback in the 4th quarter and in one play Billy Chase broke the line of scrimmage for his second touchdown of the afternoon going 46 yards to the end zone. This was a team effort by the Comanches that lead to their first win in four years. The team would like to thank the Comanche Cheerleaders for helping bring in this great win. The final score with the Comanches on top was 18 to 12.
Cheyenne 20 Mohawk 13
2010 superbowl champion Cheyenne opened the season with a close 20 to 13 win over the Mohawk. Brodie Tirrell started us off with a 40 yd run. Tyler Keough had a great with multiple runs for touchdowns. Thomas Bradley had a strong day at QB. Evan Mantel was playing great on offense and defense. Offense and defense linemen, Jack O’Neill, Anthony Desisto, Brendan Lamothe, Kyle Scrooc, and Anthony Op, all played great both ways along with defensive backs Jared Doyle, Jared Bova, Daniel Lightfoot, Richard Lavargna, Owen Gilligan and Savion Piche. All were key in holding the Mohawk to 13 points in the first half and shutting them out in the second half. Austin Tingtella did a great job helping coach with a broken wrist.
