Eagles: 31 vs. Wildcats: 22
The Eagles moved their record to 5 - 1 with a 31 to 22 win over the Wildcats on Saturday. Shorthanded and playing with only 6, the exhausted girls did a great job of passing the ball, rebounding and playing defense. This resulted in many layup opportunities for the Eagles. For the second week in a row, Alllie Indindaro led the team in scoring with 17, followed by Madison Stovesand 8, Catalina Burke 4 and Alyssandra Ragusa 2. Guards Rose Strobel and Hannah Kocsmiersky played great defense and caused 12 turnovers. Madison was a force on the rebounded end. A good, all around win the Eagles.
Jayhawks: 20 vs. Terriers: 13
The Girls In Town Basketball program held week 6 this past weekend and the Jayhawks hosted the Terriers. The Jayhawks fell behind in the 1st quarter with some solid offense from the Terries but the Defense had some great rebounds and steals from Sadie Basile (3 rebounds, 2 steals) and Kayla Mirisola (2 rebounds, 2 steals) Jordan Gardner hit a nice shot to get the Jayhawks on the score board (2pts) In the 2nd Quarter the Jayhawks Offense was led by MaryKate Callinan (12 points, 8 rebounds and 1 steal) along with Erin Mclntyre (6pts, 4 steals, 4 rebounds) The Jayhawks lead at the half 12-8. In the 3rd Quarter the Jayhawks defense was led by Maisan Nguyen (4 steals, 2 rebounds) and Madison Kearney (3 steals). The Terriers played hard with just 5 girls all game but the Jayhawks found a few more baskets in the 4th quarter to get the win. The Jayhawks game ball award went to Erin Mclntyre for her great efforts both sides of the ball.
Badgers: 24 vs. Cougars: 5
The Badgers notched another victory this week with tremendous all around team play. In true team fashion, the passing was completely unselfish and scoring came from every member of the team: Fiona Green (6), Alex Fowler (4), Lindsey Lombardo (4), Mariya Ortiz (4), Alyssa Gray (2), Emma Hiltz (2), and Caleigh Shanahan (2). The defense was for the Badgers was relentless and once again a reason for the team’s success.
Cardinals: 8 vs. Wolverines: 31
The Cardinals knew they had a big challenge with today’s game as the
Wolverines were the only undefeated team in the league. Our team went with
8 players, as Christina Capachietti had to miss due to a game with her
travel team. We did our best to match up against this really tough team.
Bella Dematos, Courtney Capachietti, Kristen Curley, Kylie Galvin, and
Olivia Burns worked hard to swing the ball and set up a good shot. We did
score off a jump shot by Olivia Burns, but for that quarter, that was our
only offense. For the Wolverines they were successful setting up great
shots, great passes, and as well finished fast breaks with a score. Our
second five of Ava Piccolo, Kristen Curley, Gabby Navarette, and Becca
Langone, worked hard to keep the baskets to a minimum. We had great success
with the press and as well responding to the press put on by the Wolverines.
The game was out of reach leading into the fourth quarter, but we made sure
we never quit and gave it our all each play. Rounding out the scoring
today were Courtney Capachietti with four points, Olivia Burns with two
points, and Becca Langone with two. The Cardinals will work hard this
coming week to prepare for our next game.
Wolverines: 29 vs. Cardinals: 8
The Wolverines visited the Cardinals in their sixth game of the season and pulled out a hard fought victory, 29-8. Alyssa Marchelletta led all Wolverine scorers with 12 points in the game, followed by Emily Walker (8), Nicole Potito (7) and Brooke Woodman (2). Sarah Hunt led the Wolverines in rebounds with 6, followed by Woodman, Jessica Hickey and Potito (5 each), Olivia Paulding (4), and Lexie Bobotas (2). Marchelletta led the team with 9 steals, followed by Walker (5), Potito (4) and Hunt, Paulding and Hickey (2 each). A solid win for the Wolverines as they look to keep improving each week.
Senior
Blazers: 36 vs. Pacers: 23
Pacers played well on offense getting quality shots for most of the game. However the shots were not falling on the day and also could not contain the 3-point shooting of the red hot Blazers. The Pacers trailed early and could never recover despite a spirited effort on both sides of the ball. Scoring for the Pacers was Emma Demos and Briana Walker with 6 each, Kendall Donahoe with 4, Caitlyn Fiore, Mikaela Enax, and Shannon Crowley with 2 each, and Katelyn Quinn-Cyr added a free throw. Leading rebounders were Crowley with 9, and Demos and Quinn-Cyr each with 7. Leading in steals was Demos and Crowley with 4 each and Fiore with 3. Leading shot blockers were Demos and Donahoe with 4 and Crowley with 3. Kerry Shea, Demos, Fiore, and Crowley had numerous quality shots all day that just were not finding the bottom of the hoop going a combined 3 for 35 for the game. Rachel Scaringi pulled down a couple of key rebounds in the 3rd quarter to start a rally for the team. One impressive stat for the Pacers was going 10 for 12 from the line.
Sonics vs. Jazz
The Sonics lost a competitive game to the Jazz this week. Marissa Ladderbush led the scoring with 10 points including a 3 pointer. There was balanced scoring across the team: Alexa Harrington (6), Rebecca DeFrancesco (3), Amber Buttaro (2), Alicia Barbati (2), and Janine Richardson (2). Molly O’Neill owned the paint generating a few jump balls on defense and garnering several rebounds. Samira El Hakim had some nice moves in the paint but came up short with adding some baskets. Brooke Fullerton was instrumental on the weak side chasing down some loose balls to retain the possession for the Sonics. Julia Cafferty had several shot attempts that did not connect along with a strong defensive outing.
