Late in the afternoon the other day as I drove through Ames Pond Corporate Center, I was admiring how beautiful the pond was. Frozen solid and glistening in the sun, it was truly a site for sore eyes. As my eye traveled along the banks, it was then immediately drawn to the enormity of the apartment buildings that have been built behind this beautiful landscape. I think back to when I first moved to Tewksbury and worked at the Ames Pond Corporate Center. How relaxing it was to look out at the pond and marvel at how lucky the town was to have such a natural wonder. And yes, I was here for all of the proposals and hearings that went into the decision to build the apartment complex. And yes, I have seen many developments look a lot worse. But really...once a decision is made to change such a landscape, it is a decision that is made forever. There is no going back to that once pristine hillside overlooking that beautiful pond. THANK GOD that the townspeople came together in unison to kill the casino proposal. That would have further destroyed this area. Remember the old saying, that you can never un-ring a bell and let's keep that in mind for any future developments that threaten to destroy our town's natural treasures.....
