Two Tewksbury Educational Programs To Receive State Money

The Miceli Amendments will benefit North Street Elementary School and Camp Pohelo.

TEWKSBURY, MA - From the Office of Representative Miceli: Following news of Representative Miceli securing the release of monies for Into Action Recovery, it appears good news comes in twos or even threes. Two local education and programming priorities, repairs to the North Street Elementary School in Tewksbury and operations funding for the special needs program Camp Pohelo, have had state funding set for release as a result of Representative Miceli’s advocacy as ranking member of the House Ways and Means Committee.

The line-item for the North Street Elementary School became a budgeting target for Representative Miceli following a trip to the school in which he witnessed firsthand the need for repairs. The allocated funds of $200,000 have been appropriated to be expended by the Tewksbury school department.

“A strong state starts with strong towns and cities, and well educated students in those municipalities. This additional funding for education and youth programming I placed in the budget will help guarantee the best quality services for our students and young residents, which I have always strongly believed to be a necessary place to invest,” said Representative Miceli. “As the Tewksbury School Board, administration, and I work with the MSBA with regards to a new elementary school we as a community can rest easy knowing our current facilities are being maintained.”

For decades, Camp Pohelo has been a staple of the summer. The camp, which began over fifty years ago in Melvin Rogers Park, is a six-week program which takes place mid-summer and is open to young people in the area up to age 22. TA total of $25,000 was earmarked and passed by Representative Miceli in the FY18 budget for the continued operation Camp Pohelo and all its activities.
