TYF Roundup: Youth flag and tackle kick off 2016 campaign

Tewksbury Youth Football swung into action this weekend with a number of flag and tackle contests. Here are some updates.

Tewksbury Green 36, Sanborn 12

Tewksbury Green opened the season in fine fashion by spreading the ball around on offense with five different players reaching the end zone. Behind a terrific offensive line effort, newcomer Tyler Sanon ran for two touchdowns, while Jaden Maxi added a pair of rushing scores. Nicky DeSisto scampered in from 18 yards for the third Green touchdown. Jack Lightfoot and Shane Spurr contributed extra points in the Tewksbury win. On the defensive side of the ball, Angelo DeSisto, Anthony Monteiro, Ethan Martins, Evan Lim, and Jared Mirisola had solid efforts in the victory. Green will travel to Timberlane on Saturday.

Junior Division
5th & 6th Grade

Tewksbury Red Pride A 30, Lowell 0

Sparked by a Um’ari Seney 40-yard interception return for a touchdown, the Red Pride defense shut down Lowell to kick off the 2016 campaign. Justin Darrigo added a sack and fumble recovery, with Max Mattuchio adding a sack in the stout defensive effort. While Red was held scoreless on the offensive side of the ball in the first quarter, they struck with a quick two-play, 80-yard scoring drive highlighted by a Nick DeGloria 60-yard pass to Mike Sullivan and a Colin Frasier 20-yard scamper for the touchdown. Frasier had two rushing touchdowns on the day in the impressive victory.

Tewksbury Red Pride B 26, Lowell 6

Ajani Seney got the Red Pride off to a stunning start, taking the opening play of the game 60 yards for a touchdown. Seney would have two rushing touchdowns on the day, with Cameron Kearney adding a rushing touchdown with close to 100 yards on the ground. Hunter Johnson added a 10-yard touchdown run to cap off the Red scoring. Pacing the defense was Alex Arbogast with a key sack, along with Daniel Sullivan standing out on the defensive side of the ball. Defensive lineman Trevor LaFave show tremendous effort last in the game with a touchdown-saving tackle.

Tewksbury Flag Football

K-2 Division

Light Blue 42, Gold 13

Evan Brothers had two touchdowns and played solid defense for Light Blue, while Gabe Bouchie added a pair of running scores in the victory. Drew Bouchie also added a long touchdown run for Light Blue. On the Gold side of the ball, Johnny Pasquariello rushed for two touchdowns with Noah Martins adding an extra-point run. Oliver Green and Dylan Goodwin had some solid flag pulls for Gold.

Maroon 18, Red 8

Mike Kelly rushed for a pair of touchdowns and Will Harrison added a touchdown run for Maroon in the winning effort. Andrew Polleys had a big game on defense, while Nathan Wiggins put for a solid effort of both sides of the ball.

Purple 26, Green 20

Purple was able to edge out Green in a close contest. Jackson Kenney, Shayne Welch, and Henry Bosworth each had a touchdown for the Green squad. Enzo Iannuzzi added some great runs to put Green in solid field position.

Black 36, Blue 6

Cam Lanziero’s two rushing touchdowns and one TD catch from the arm of Justin Harrington paced Black to an opening game victory. On the defensive side for Black, Jason DiPalma and Aaron Annese added interception returns for touchdowns.

3rd-4th Grade Division

Black 14, Red 6

Will Holloway’s two TD passes paced Black’s offense in the victory, but it was the defense that came up big in the win with key interceptions by Anthony Curreri and Joey Barletta. Jason Harrington pulled several flags for Black in a well-played contest. Red’s lone score came from a passing strike from Philip Lombardi to Jack Rattey. Zach Russo had a great catch over the middle, while Jackson Goldman had a great defensive game.

Maroon 28, Navy Blue 6

In some wet conditions, Will Fillmore pulled multiple flags for Navy while teammate Mike Colameta put forth a great effort on both sides of the ball at linebacker and center. Navy’s Ryan Testa had a rushing touchdown while Ayden Annese added an interception.

5th-6th Grade Division

Royal Blue 12, Orange 0

Colby Flahive’s three interceptions paced a solid defensive effort for Blue to kick off the season in the senior flag circuit. A rushing touchdown from Kyle Cummings and a James Carroll TD reception capped off the scoring for the victors. Alex DelloRusso added a pair of receptions in the Royal win.

Red 39, Black 6

Red took the first play from scrimmage to the house and didn’t look back, with Justin Magee connecting with Luke Montejo for the touchdown strike. Jack Callahan added two rushing touchdowns while Ryan Thompson lead the defense with two interceptions, one returned for a touchdown. For Black, Cal Caliendo did a fine job defensively sealing off the edges, with Nick Ingersoll did a nice job rushing the quarterback. QB Ben Doucette connected with Kyle Adams late in the first half for the Black squad.
