On a cold and windy Spring Saturday morning, the girls were looking keep the winning streak alive for a second week in a row. The first half play was dominated by the cold and wind. It took a while for the girls to warm up, but when then did, the chips all fell into place. The 2nd came on a corner kick. Sarah (no breaks, you're a Catz athlete now) Baptista grabbed the juicy rebound off of the Waltham defender and passed to the waiting Skylar Jacques and she netted a rocket over the keeper's head. Tewksbury GU14-2 - 0
The locals were flying high coming off a Week One win.
The Dracut team playing a clean physical game controlled this one from wire to wire.
The defense of the double H's Haley Pozzuto and Haley Aznavoorian along with Nicole Malfa did all they could to keep the girls in the game. KG (Kaleigh Gammon) played her usual strong game in net.
On the offensive end some flashes from Karah Chaisson, Taylor Donohoe, Aria Porzio and Darien Davino but no real threats. Back to the practice field

Tewksbury GU14-4 - 1
Even though Tewksbury dropped its second game to Woburn, it was not from a lack of trying. Throughout the first half, Tewksbury peppered the Woburn goalkeeper with multiple opportunities. After Makayla Calouro popped her kick off the keeper's hands, Monica Aronson rushed to the rebound, but she could not get off a kick.
Katie Adelsberger and Mary Bliss worked the ball toward Woburn's net until they were stymied by the goalkeeper. As stopper and sweeper, Kayleigh Bishop and Dimple Gandhi were tenacious challenging Woburn's forwards. Defending her net, Shealagh Doherty maintained patience and scampered at Woburn's scoring attempts. After capitalizing on her penalty kick, Ariana Calouro brought Tewksbury within a goal of Woburn.
Roaming the midfield, Kelsie Allen and Alyssa Aurilio were able to intercept passes to set up Molly McDonald and Emily Duquette for scoring chances from their respective forward positions. On separate occasions, Jessica Ripley, Nicole Salvato, Stephanie McHatton, and Catherine Ozek cruised into the Woburn zone, but they could not successfully beat the Woburn goalkeeper. For its third game of the season, Tewksbury will travel to Melrose.

Wilmington - 2
The GU10-2 had their first game this week against Wilmington GU10-3; unfortunately Tewksbury came up short in the end losing 2-0. The score was tied at the end of the first half with Tewksbury doing a great job keeping the ball in Wilmington’s end, coming up with some good scoring opportunities, but not finding the back of the net.
Madison Bourassa, Emma Scopa, Brianna Walker applied consistent pressure on the offensive end. MaryCate Cassidy and Sophie Eskenas played very well in the middle of the field helping on defense and supporting the offense. Julie Ozek, Jess Potito, and Kiley Tibbetts were tough on defense making it tough for Wilmington to get a sustained attack going. Rebecca Smith was her usual steady presence in goal. We look forward to next week’s game in Chelmsford, hoping to get one in the win column.

Burlington 0
The Tewksbury Girls U10 Division 3A team had an early morning game in Burlington in the sub 40 degree cold. The whole team (including coaches) was having trouble getting going. The game started with both teams getting scoring chances. Early in the 1st half a Burlington player broke free and struck a beautiful arcing shot towards the net.
Marissa Ladderbush was able to reach up and deflect it out of bounds. Kenzie Kennison showed great heart out there playing while sick and had several scoring chances. Jordan Paula and Kendall Donahoe were always in the right position which resulted in both of them getting some shots on goal. The Tewksbury defense was also great. At the end of the half the score was 0-0 and the Tewksbury girls were wondering if they were ever going to score on the season.
In the 2nd half the girls came out with energy. Six and a half minutes in Kenzie took the ball down the left side and made a great center pass to Marissa who put the ball in the net. This line of Kenzie, Jordan, and Marissa was so energetic that it seemed to spur on the rest of the team. At the 15 and 21 minute mark of the half Olivia Houghton scored two unassisted goals.
The second one was a marvelous length of field run where she used both her footwork and speed to beat two Burlington defenders to get the ball in the net. The defense of Lauren McIntyre and Grace Morris was also incredibly solid in the half with Maddy Berry only having to make 2 saves. Lauren not only stopped the attack but also took the ball into the offensive end many times to lead the attack. Grace showed great strength playing every minute of the entire game. Also Sarah Cunningham and Kendall continued to come back and help on defense to preserve the lead. Great job team!!

Wilmington - 4
Tewksbury U-10 girls soccer team had their first defeat of the season on Saturday morning. The cold air and the brisk wind made for tough playing conditions. The Crushers held Wilmington at bay in the first half. Defensive stand outs included Cora Barret, Ryan Quinn and goaltender Julia Cafferty.
The teams offense included Isabelle Frost, Katherine Mawn and Kaitlyn Sheehan, who together had some nice passes and shots on goal but just could not get past Wilmington's D. In the second half the Crushers had more difficulty handling Wilmington's heated offense.
Erin Carter, Julia Garland, Hannah Slattery, and Gianna DiGiorgio had some quality moves of their own but the day belonged to Wilmington. Final Score 4-0, better Luck next week Crushers!!
Tewksbury GU12-2 – 1
Westford – 1
The girls of Tewksbury had one of those games where they did everything right and put up a tremendous effort in every way, but the ball just did not want to find the back of the net for them. Westford started the game with the opening kickoff but quickly turned the ball over and allowed Tewksbury to go on the offensive with a quick rush.
Throughout the game the Tewksbury defensive fore of Viviana Bain, Stephanie Graffeo, and Katie Famiglietti pushed the Westford attackers out of the shooting lane and forced them to turn the ball over on the sides. Strikers Sarah Ciampa and Madison Wescott were doing everything they could from fakes and footwork to great crossing passes, but the ball always found its way to the Westford Keeper or the bounces favored the defenders.
Tewksbury had some quality chances on corner kicks thanks to the precision drops of Sam Surowiec and Kelly Fortier, but again Tewksbury came away frustrated with an open net behind them and the ball bouncing out of range for a shot. The Tewksbury midfielders Brittany Malfa, Ashley Antonelli, Andrea DiCiaccio, and Kayla Makooi played big as they stifled many Westford rushes in their own end and quickly turned up field and hit the gas to power up the attack.
Emily Langone and Allison Couillard continued to play heads up in net with quality saves and strong distribution kicks into the attacking zone for a quick attack. The lone Westford goal came late in the first half when the keeper and the defender misread each other and the attacker made a move to the inside and caught the keeper going the wrong way for the save. Not to worry though, Madison Wescott came back strong in the second half with another determined rush through two defenders. She powered her way though their deflections and found herself with the ball in the open with 20 yards to go for pay dirt. The Westford keeper came out to challenge but Madison was already thinking shot and unloaded a blast into the open side of the net.
Tewksbury was thankful to get the point on a cold and windy day when they did everything right and played heads up soccer with zero penalties.
